So my favorite thing about BYU campus in the spring is actually the ducks. They are extremely entertaining to watch. My favorite thing is when you are walking out of the library and there aare two ducks walking across the sidewalk. I also find it hilarious how all the ducks are completely paired off (as if BYU didn't already have enough couples following each other around :-). It is so funny to watch when the boy duck is super protective of the girl duck. If you walk to closely to them, the boy ducks will seriously give you the look of death. I laugh every time!
I also found this hilarious thing written by a friend called "Every thing I know about girls I learned from ducks."
Here it is...
Truth be told, ducks have a lot to teach us, especially about how to get ladies. You don't believe me do you? Read the following story and maybe you will change your mind:
Well, I really needed to get out of my house, so I decided to just go for a walk by myself to this pond that's about a mile away from my house. It was such a perfect day today and I would recommend going on a walk anytime you are stressed out about anything, especially girls. Anyways, the most important thing I learned on my walk I learned from ducks. I never knew you could learn so much from ducks until today.
So basically, I was sitting on a big rock near the edge of the pond just thinking about nothing in particular, but in my subconscious mind I was watching these ducks swimming around. There was also a seagull and a big goose that was attacking this lady and her kids, and it was funny, but I was focused on the ducks.
I learned two things from ducks that relates to females in general. First of all, there was a female duck that was totally interested in this male duck that was swimming next to her. She started swimming towards him, but it was obvious that he was interested in another female duck that swimming on the other side of the pond. She kept following him, but he just ignored her and kept swimming. So lesson one is, guys don't like to be chased by girls...guys prefer to do the chasing. It made me think about when girls have chased me. When it has happened I normally don't end up really falling in love with the girl. I don't like to be chased, unless I've done my fair share of chasing the girl first.
Lesson #2, which is even more profound and much more useful. There were two other male ducks (Drakes) that were fighting over the same female duck. One of the males kept chasing the other male away and nipping at him, but the second drake didn't give up. Eventually, the female duck took off and started flying away. The first male duck took off too and started flying after her. The second male duck saw this and about 5 seconds later he took off in pursuit as well. The first male duck chased her for about 10 seconds then got tired or was a quitter or something and gave up and landed back into the water. The second male duck, even though he got a late start, caught up to the female duck and flew alongside her, and he kept up with her. He showed her that he could keep up and he didn't give up. Eventually she got tired of being chased and she landed in the water. NOW HERE’S THE MOST IMPORTANT PART. .. Instead of landing right next to her, the male duck flew about 10 feet further and then landed in the water ahead of her. He then just started slowing swimming towards the shore. The female duck then seeing that he wasn’t gloating or bragging about how strong he was, made the move...she started swimming after him and followed him up onto the shore, where they stood right next to each other for the next 10 minutes, as a new boyfriend or girlfriend. Or something like that! Having apparently sealed the deal, she followed him when he got back into the water.
Okay there are soooooooooo many lessons to be learned from this story. It's almost like it could be a parable from the Bible about how to get girls: "There wert two male ducks and one female duck in a pond. The first male duck and the second male duck both liketh the female duck..." well I'll let you finish it. But the moral of the story is that girls do like to be chased to a degree, whether they admit it or not, but you've got to show them that you can keep up with them. It's important to note that once the second male duck caught up to the female, he didn't fly behind her, because that would have weirded her out. Instead he flew alongside her. Also, it's very important that when she got tired of being chased and landed, he didn't land right next to her. He landed in front of her and then let her come to him. If he would have landed right next to her it would have been like "Hah! I got you now!" Instead he landed in front of her and let her make the decision to come to him. He won her respect by keeping up with her and then not gloating over it once he got her to stop running. From then on, he had her....she followed him wherever he went, because he had gained her respect. This brings up another point: we don't need to try to impress girls; rather, we need to gain their respect.
So in a nutshell:
1) Girls like to or at least need to be chased
2) You've got to show them you can keep up with them
3) Once they slow down, you need to keep going on a head, just a little bit
4) Don't try to impress girls. Learn how you can gain their respect.
5) Apply these techniques and you will find the girl of your dreams, but not only find her, get her to fall in love with you as well
Anyways, it's amazing what you can learn from ducks. If anyone learns anything else from those mysterious creatures about how to get girls, or whatever, let us know!

Ah, they both look like Chloe - when we thought he was female and then when he became a drake! Just don't smile in that pond...
